Encaustic & mixed media on board, 10"x10", 2016.  On exhibit: Global Warming is Real, July 1 - August 20 2017, National Juried Encaustic Exhibition, Santa Fe, New Mexico

I love the water and while visiting the coast of Maine I began a series of water inspired pieces.  My mind kept going back to the ongoing devastation caused by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, and the knowledge that it is really one ocean that we all share. I began incorporating black sand and mylar glitter into the work, which really changed the feel of the work.

Encaustic on board, 18" x 24"

Autumnal was painted using encaustic paints primarily created from natural ochre pigments collected by artist Kim Bernard on a trip to France.  These earthy colors perfectly reflected the landscape of Vermont in Autumn, and I wanted to a reflect some of always changing beauty and joy of the fall landscape in this painting.

Azure was inspired by the meditative depth and beauty of warm waters in bright sunlight.  Using encaustic medium allows me to create a feeling of great depth, transparency and movement.  Encaustic medium really allow me to explore the power of color to evoke not just time and place but feeling and emotion.
